Today’s helping came from a recommendation from a friend. She knew that I was looking for a new comedy to watch, and so she pointed me in the direction of Workin’ Moms. Now, full disclosure, I’m not a mom, so as I hit play on the first episode, it did cross my mind that I might not be able to relate to every situation and/or joke. I’ve certainly never had to compare the destructive effects of breastfeeding at a ‘Mommy and Me’ play group. And that was the very first scene of the first episode.
However, I think everyone can relate to the overall experience of being overwhelmed when you’re constantly being bombarded with messages about the joys of Having It All! I just barely manage to keep my shit together, and I only have to worry about the ‘working’ part of this show’s title. Throw into the mix a tiny human who’s completely dependent on me for survival, and I’m pretty sure I’d be ready to scream at a bear too. And no, that’s not a new expression I’ve just made up. Workin’ Moms sure had a jam packed pilot episode.
I’ll be the first to admit that there’s been a Canadian comedy-sized hole in my heart since the end of Schitt’s Creek. But it would seem that Workin’ Moms is poised to fill it. At the very least, the way this year has gone so far, I’ll never say no to more laughs.
