Longtime readers of The Daily Hart may remember that right at the beginning of this year’s challenge, I fell in love with a show called KinnPorsche and promptly fell down a rabbit hole of BL TV shows. But then something happened that made me very much fall out of love with that show, and as a result, I found myself unable to watch anything else in that genre. Hence the lack of BL daily helpings these past several months. However, recently a rec came through that urged me to try out Until We Meet Again. And so I did. I haven’t finished it yet. But I am about six episodes in. Which is long enough to be cautiously optimistic that this might be the show that gets me back into the genre that once brought me so much joy.
Now, if you know anything about Until We Meet Again, that may surprise you. And if you don’t, let’s just say that I already know that this show is going to rip out my heart and shred it in front of me. This is not a sappy romance that fills you with the warm fuzzies. It opens with a scene where two young men, both very much in the throes of young love, are driven to suicide by the unacceptance of their relationship by their families. The show then shifts to another pair of young men who meet in university and are immediately drawn to each other. The narrative shifts between these two couples, and you ultimately learn that the new couple are the reincarnations of the previous lovers, having found each other again in another life.
As I said, I’m only six episodes in so far. But I will be binging the rest of the episodes as soon as my schedule allows. Which I am both looking forward to and dreading. Looking forward to because I can’t wait to see where this story goes. Dreading because I know I’m going to get sucker punched with all of the feels by the end of it. The only question at this point is how much am I going to cry by the final episode. I have a feeling the answer to that question is a lot. But it’s also going to feel so good.
One last note. The two main couples are both adorable and have fantastic chemistry. But I have to shout out the supporting cast. Especially one of the young actresses who is the literal definition of squee. She is a pure ray of sunshine in this show and I love her so much.
