I must admit that I discovered this Thai rock band entirely through the power of nostalgia. “Phan” is one of the hit singles off of Slot Machine’s breakthrough album Mutation. An album that was produced by Scott Moffatt. As in the former lead guitarist and vocalist of the Canadian band The Moffatts. A band I had an entirely healthy obsession with as a 13 year old boyband fanatic. Did I see The Moffatts in concert the summer of 1998? You bet I did. And it was glorious.
I’m not entirely sure how a Canadian former boybander ended up producing an album for an up and coming Thai rock band, but I’m glad he did. I’ve been devouring Slot Machine’s back catalogue ever since the name Scott Moffatt first caught my attention, and they’re a pretty darn awesome band. They’re also still together and producing music (sans my fellow Canadian), so hopefully they’ll swing through Paris someday soon. Another band to add to my “want to see live” list.
