I can’t think of a theme that has inspired more works of art than love. Literally millions of love songs are written every year. Billions of dollars have been spent on movie tickets for films in which implausibly gorgeous people fall in love. And countless words have been written to try and capture just exactly what that feels like. I have consumed a lot of love stories in my lifetime, but some of my favourite words written about love come from poet Rudy Francisco in his piece “A lot Like You“.
So today, on a day dedicated to love, all I will say is this. Whomever you have in your life. Whether your love is romantic or platonic. Whether you have one special person, a community of persons, or both. Whomever you love, I hope you love them fully and unabashedly. I hope you tell them freely and often. And I hope they cherish your love and return it in kind.
