Contrary to popular belief, it was not Robert Pattison who said that you should date a girl who reads. That would be Rosemarie Urquico in her poem “Date a Girl Who Reads.” This poem came to me via the I Met You on LJ podcast, and let’s just say that I can relate. Hard.
“Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes, who has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.”
In my case, I got my first library card when I was six and I hate coffee. But I also would much rather spend my money on books than clothes, and I absolutely do have too many books. I also absolutely do not care.
So thank you Rosemarie Urquico for the shout out. And to all my fellow readers out there, thanks for getting it.
