I recently went to the Musée Cernuschi to see the exhibition Ink in Motion, A History of Chinese Painting in the 20th Century. And I loved it. Just like I pretty much love every exhibition at the Musée Cernuschi. But this exhibition in particular was fascinating, because it traced the history of Chinese ink painting not just in China, but among the Chinese diaspora as well throughout the 20th century. Which means the artwork on display was wide and varied in its styles, themes, and scope. There was a lot to love, but I was particularly drawn to the images above by Qi Baishi. There is something very calm and serene about their elegant simplicity. And after a tumultuous couple of weeks, I needed a little calm and serenity on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy!
