Much to my uncle’s chagrin, I have never been overly fond of country music. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. It’s just never been my favourite music genre, and it’s certainly not what I naturally gravitate towards. So when I was sent this rec by Maddie & Tae, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But out of all the possibilities of what I could have expected, this was absolutely none of them. Yes, it’s a country song. I mean, it’s right there in the title. But it’s also a comedy song, and a hilarious one at that.
At first, I wasn’t sure if I was on board. The lyrics were clever and the song itself was catchy, but it was still a country song. Again, nothing wrong with that, just not my cup of tea. And then a literal button was pushed at about the one minute mark and that was that. I nearly did an honest to god spit take and proceeded to laugh my way through the rest of the song. From that point on, I was all in.
So yeah. Shout out to Maddie & Tae for getting me to fall in love with a country song. I’m sure my uncle salutes you both.
