I loved this video of artist Lena Danya painting the image above. There was something mesmerizing about the time lapse effect. Watching the brush move back and forth, and witnessing the painting coming to life. Not only is the painting beautiful, but its creation is as well.
However, what I loved the most was the commentary by Lena Danya. I’ve said many times in the past that I know nothing about painting and visual art, so being able to follow along with what she was doing was wonderful. I only wish that the explanations had gone a bit deeper. For example, based on the final image, I would have never have guessed that the first layer of colour on the canvas was a rust-like red. Do all oil paintings start like that? With a completely different colour base from the final image?
Clearly, I still have a lot to learn about oil painting, so I’m sure there will be a lot more videos like this in my future. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy this one and dream of the day when I can fill my home with paintings like this.
