I’ve discovered that YouTube’s algorithm is decidedly persistent if it thinks there’s a video you will like. Case in point: Chloe Gardiol’s aerial hoop routine to “Cry Me a River”. Ever since I started searching for circus art performances, particularly aerial routines, YouTube has been trying to get me to watch this video. And every time I’ve ignored it, because I thought the song in the title was the Justin Timberlake version. I have nothing against Chloe Gardiol, but I’ve always thought that that song was a misogynistic piece of trash, so I refused to hit play. But there’s only so many times you can ignore a suggestion before you start to wonder if the universe is trying to tell you something. So today I finally hit play. And let me tell you, I will never doubt the universe again.
Not only is this the Michael Buble version of the song, but this whole performance is simply incredible. I absolutely loved everything about it. The performance, the song, the direction, the costuming. Everything. So lesson learned. When an algorithm is that persistent, at the very least, give it the benefit of the doubt.
