Daily Helping for December 21st, 2020 – Rasika Shekar – UPROAR

A promotional photo of Rasika Shekar holding a flute.

Similar to last week, I woke up this morning with a craving to listen to a certain musical instrument. This time it was a flute instead of a cello, and yes, I’m sure this is entirely to do with The Untamed. It’s going to be a long time before I get that show out of my head. Anyway, after a bit of poking around on YouTube, I came across this video by Rasika Shekar. I’m not going to lie, it took me a minute or two to get into this piece, but once I did, I was mesmerized.

The description below the video states that this song is meant to capture the nature of the relationship between ourselves and the world. The chaos within our minds in today’s modern society. If that was the intention, then I’d say Rasika Shekar definitely succeeded. My first thought was that it was a jazz piece, and jazz is definitely chaotic. Often deliciously so. In this case, I loved how despite the chaos, the piece still managed to build and build until its triumphant conclusion. It was wonderful.

I know that according to my own self-imposed pattern, today’s daily helping should be a Spanish language song, but what can I say? I wanted more flutes. Also, random side note. I only just now learned that a person who plays the flute is called a flautist. Sometimes I love the English language.
